Handwritten notes get attention, boost response rates
Interesting post from Neuromarketing on the power of a handwritten note.
Every once in a while I get a piece of junk mail and even though it’s obviously a mass mailing those little post it notes and seemingly handwritten notes catch my attention.
Turns out handwriting (even if it’s type that just looks like handwriting) creates a “reciprocity” effect. We feel the sender put some extra effort into the note and we “owe” them the extra effort of reading what they sent.
As in all marketing, what’s important to remember is the underlying sincerity of the note. Otherwise this becomes just another marketing gimmick.

I completely agree with you. I see so many people jumping on the ‘next new (or old) thing’ in marketing and it ends up working against them.
For example, many people say they can write and submit press releases. Some can, but most can’t. They pop in sales copy and send it out to thousands of reporters that don’t cover what the release is trying to ‘sell.’
What happens? You get on a reporters banned list. (Some, like the editor of WIRED, Chris Anderson, even post the offenders on his blog for the world to see!)

On board with here. I think people need to be authentic in their marketing and all that they do. an actual note that is Handwritten is very personal and leaves a lasting impression.
As a realtor I send Hand written notes on a daily basis and get incredible results.
As the lacking of good note cards that were non gender specific and unique we created http://www.NotesHandwritten.com We hope to help marketers around the nation to stand out as remarkable (as Seth Godin would say) grow their business through strong relationships.
Thanks for your great point here.

I completely agree with you about the hand written note! It is always good to see that extra thought. To think that for one second that person took an extra moment out of their life to write something down. I love to include a hand written thank you to my customers whenever possible! It makes us both feel great!
